In 1769, the Genoese sold Corsica to Louis XV for 40 million francs, and in his glee at obtaining the island, he made a gift of an ancient Genoese domaine named la Paratella to Monsieur Murat de la Serpriere. Having seen the Genoese come and go, la Paratella, transformed into Auberge Relais la Signoria, now enjoys a more relaxed incarnation. The property has been extended keeping the original style intact, so there are vaulted ceilings in the main building and antique furnishings throughout. Each of the 24 rooms and suites is individually styled and decorated with warm Mediterranean hues and antique chandeliers, enjoying panoramic views over the Bonifatu valley and the mountain chain which hugs the coast. The rooms open onto the pool area or gardens where one can dream the day away from early morning until it is time to retire to prepare for a pre-dinner cocktail in the charming bar, before an ostentatious Corsican feast awaits you in the restaurant. The luxurious gardens offer everyone a place to relax in three hectares of umbrella pines, eucalyptus, palm and olive trees filling the air with wild scents of the Mediterranean where time seems to stand still. It is one of the most peaceful spots in Calvi, where only the whirr of cicadas and the trickle of the fountains disturb the calm. The pleasant and unobtrusive staff will ensure all your needs are taken care of without disturbing the air of serenity which pervades the Auberge. If you wish to venture into atmospheric Calvi, the beach is only 3km away, where the Auberge has its own private section with a second restaurant on it, La Signoria Mare.
