Makadi Bay Reviews

Top Rated in Makadi Bay: Fort Arabesque

REVIEW BY: K Sampson, Cornwall - July 2010

Fantastic location with excellent snorkelling from knee-deep to 15 metres, all from the beach. The best reefs were 10 metres from the beach with just about the whole collection of Red sea fish varieties seen. Amazing.

This made up for the slow service and surly attitudes from some of the staff in the hotel. Bar staff were inattentive (unless 'bribed') and sloppy, the restaurants (canteens, more like)were tired decor-wise, many of the staff could also do with refreshing to raise the standards, both in dress and doing what they are paid to do - look after the customer.

Not one time in any of the meals we had were tables prepared, when they finally were - there were always items missing. Drinks service was inevitably slow to non-existent and queuing for tepid offerings lengthy and irritating (Germans, Russians, Italians and Americans have no manners.)

Pools were tired and edging damaged/unkempt (I would say unsafe and potentially hazardous for contamination and physical injury if not careful), whiffs of raw sewage often drifted around and beds both by the pool and the beach had to be claimed by 6.00am or you had no opportunity for shade - when the temperature is 100 degrees, shade becomes essential!

Room was large, airy (air-con worked all day and night) and functional, bathroom only had a walk-in shower - no bath, but was clean and adequate. Mini-bar stocked with water and soft drinks, beer could be taken to the room and the cleaner worked wonders with his towel arrangements! (And kept our room clean - good lad).

Good points were that not all the staff were as bad as certain individuals in the hotel complex, some were excellent and always courteous, friendly and helpful, just a few marred the sense of occasion for our holiday. Food quality was OK, but no better than some 2 - 3 star places we have stayed in.

Oh, and the entertainment in the evening was sooooo bad it was perversely good! The Animations team worked hard but were limited by their lack of skill and talent.

A good holiday but probably won't go back to this hotel as there are others equally as good or better for less in the area than this cost.
