Guests can relax on the private beach, unwind with a drink in the bar, or order a snack from all-hours room service. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can help with advice on the hotel and surrounding area, while other practical amenities include currency exchange, concierge services, dry cleaning, childcare, a safe-deposit box and free parking for those arriving by car.

We were very disappointed with the Golden Star the staff were very polite but the appts were shabby. I would class them as 1 star. They were definitely in need of refurbishment. We used the Rising Star pool, a few minutes away which was fine but the daily entertainment was monotonous bingo, quiz and water polo. The evening entertainment was second rate with the reps so full of themselves it was cringing to watch. Loads of restaurants in Protarus to choose from but it was expensive. The Airtours excursions were expensive too so we did Farmagusta using one of the companies on the Strip, much cheaper.I would go to Protarus again, the weather was great and the beaches lovely with gorgeous views but next time choose nothing less than a 4* hotel and go half board as eating out is too expensive for a family of 4 for 2 weeks.

The Golden Star apts were basic but very comfortable. Fully recommend to everyone. We had sea view which was fabulous. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The supermarket next door we could not fault, with everything in stock and all at very reasonable prices... fresh bread and doughnuts a must! Protaras in general is excellent with everything on offer to suit all ages, from macdonalds to high class restaurants. During our stay we ate sandwiches to steaks to even a fantastic curry! The bars were brill, we generally went to the karaoke bars. We would recommend the Greenery and Bells and of course Waves which is situated on the corner just down from maccie d's.One of the best meals we ate was fish and chips which we ate at Mr Cod.
We are planning to go back to Protaras next year. The beaches were the best with watersports a plenty and crystal clear waters. If you are planning to stay at Golden Star enjoy your holiday as much as we did. (Birmingham).

"This was our second visit back to Protaras, and I must say it got even better. The main..."

This was our second visit back to Protaras, and I must say it got even better. The main tourist street has been made one way to provide extra wide paths. All the area has been spruced up with block paving, tree lined paths and water features. The work over the last couple of years has definitely been worth while.

The Golden Star hotel is situated on the beach and is part of the Yianna Marie resort. You have full use of the groups facilities including use of the Sister hotel The Rising Star (about 100 yards along the beach), the on site supermarket, onsite Rising Sun Pub, Yianna Marie Restaurant, Pool side Bar, Beach Bar and grassed area for relaxing on. (http://www.yiannamarie.com) This Group aims at the family holiday maker who is looking for a good deal.
The Golden Star hotel is well furnished and has been fully redecorated over the winter (No holes in the curtains any more). This hotel is classed as a B class but is really no different to the A classes apart from the charges for additional services like AIR CON.

Optional Charges when we visited were:-
Safety Boxes 5.50 CYP Per week
Air con 2.50 CYP per day
Fans 1.75 CYP Per day
Irons Free of Charge
Televisions 2.50 CYP per day
Tennis 2.50 CYP per hour

Telephone Charges were very reasonable even from your hotel, suggest using after 10pm though as they are even cheaper.

There is no entertainment at the Golden Star hotel but the Rising Star Hotel has a weekly program of Airtours provided entertainment as does the Rising Sun pub. If this doesn’t suit your taste there are many Bars, Restaurants and even a few nightclubs (2am to 7am) along the main street. The best Restaurant for Service was Georgios and for price was the Riverboat (Just £5 for 3 courses). The rest varied dramatically in price.

Protaras Beach is one of the best beaches in Cyprus with golden sand and turquoise waters. Unfortunately the first few metres of sea can be a little rocky in places. The beach has plenty of water sport providers but shop around for the best prices (Paraglides £5 - £15). A trip on the glass bottom boat is definitely worth while, being only £4 for a three hour trip along the coast including Famagusta.

Other places worth a visit are Ayia Napa (£7 by taxi, 50c by bus) and Nicosia (£8 by coach). When in Nicosia visit the Woolworths Tower Observatory Deck to view the Turkish occupied area currently guarded by UN Forces.

All in all an excellent holiday in an excellent hotel.

"we found the apartment very basic not what we were used to going to greece last two years...."

we found the apartment very basic not what we were used to going to greece last two years. toilet was leaking from day one was fixed by day three seemed not to have had it listed down in the book. ants everywhere in living area where children slept again took two days and then were given ant spray to do our selves on way back from a night out. couldnt spray room with children in it without opening windows which wasnt very convenient.very friendly staff, cleaners came in every day so clean towels which was great.wouldnt stay again at these apartments but recommend to any one who likes basic acccommodation.rep didnt seem to know her facts on the ecursion to egypt we booked the flight for four of us costing £740.00 and told us everything was included, but when we went you had to pay to enter the mummy room and to enter the pyramid we didnt take a lot of money as she told us not to take much and so didnt have enough for us all to go in the mummy room,we did enter the pyramid. we would reccommend anyone wanting to see the pyramids to do this flight trip as it was everything it says you see but take extra to enter the mummy room and pyramid well worth the money.we hired a car for two days and found paphos to be the best place in cyprus a lot more to see and do. we would go back to cyprus again but maybe stay in paphos instead of protaras.

Basic clean accomodation which is all you really need as there is so much to do. The beach is right next to the apartments and the staff are really friendly. Would recommend paying the extra for the air conditioning as it's sooo hot (especially in August!). The Cypriot people are so friendly they really make you feel welcome. Both my children loved it here and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The island is a beautiful place and I would hire a car as driving is just like here, at night time you would just think you were at home - the road signs are the same and they drive on the same side of the road. Cyprus is one of the few places I would visit again as even though we went for 2 weeks there was still so much that we didn't see. Excellent holiday. (Sunderland)
