"Stayed at the Sofianna as a family for 10 days in June 2012, it is excellent. Everything is..."

Stayed at the Sofianna as a family for 10 days in June 2012, it is excellent. Everything is kept so clean, the pool area was superb with enough sun beds for everyone and very sunny all around it. The poolside bar was very good with a variation of snacks.

The rooms were fine, basic but with everything you need, especially hot water it was on tap 24 hours a day, the air conditioning was free.

The maid service was excellent, our maid met and greeted us each morning with a smile and couldn't do enough for us, she really went out of her way to communicate with us.

All of the staff were superb, they really made us feel welcome.
I had a sepcial request of a room which was met, so thank you.

Attached to the Hotel is a real friendly bar called 'The George and Dragon' Eva and Marios were so welcoming, we spent most of our nights in there, give them a try!!

The location of the Hotel was very good, close to the harbour, but no noise of a night time. There is a very large supermarket down towards the harbour which was excellent, they had everything you could think of. Money exchange was a better rate in Paphos than back in the UK.

All in all we had a fabulous time there and will most certainy return, if not just to see Eva and Marios.

Make that booking you really won't be disappointed.

"These apartments are in a good location, 5 mins to bar street and shops, the outdoor pool..."

These apartments are in a good location, 5 mins to bar street and shops, the outdoor pool was as good as the picture showed. Great for the kids, also had a very warm indoor pool which was nice for when it rained and believe me it rained and rained for 3 days.

The rooms are a good size, we had a one bed apart and had plenty of room for the 4 of us. This is the first place ive been to where you have a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, hairdryer and free air con.

The kids playpark was also a godsend as not much for young children to do in the resort.

The beach up near the alexander the great hotel is a nice sandy part and safe for the kids.

Very expensive to eat out, around the harbour was the highest prices, you can find some good priced places to eat that do really lovely food you just need to look around for them.

Would stay at these apartments again, had a great holiday.

"We stayed in a two bedroom apartment for a week in March. The apartment itself was good..."

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment for a week in March. The apartment itself was good except that it was impossible to get the aircon in the two bedrooms to give out warm air (the temp overnight dropping to around 10 deg) for more than about 20 mins ….then it would start pumping out cold air! We never did get the aircon in the lounge to pump out warm air; instructions on how to operate it would have been useful. Our balcony was the largest we had ever seen - you could have played a game of volleyball on it, it was so big! The apartment was cleaned for the first two days and then there was a gap of another two days before it was cleaned again. The floors however were not cleaned once during our stay, which was a bit disappointing but all other aspects of the cleaning were fine.

The kitchen was well equipped with hob, microwave and fridge all provided although we didn’t do any cooking as there are so many restaurants to chose from in the area. Ones that we particularly liked were Argo (nice mousakka), Edelweiss (very good meze), Othello’s and Chloe’s (Chinese restaurant just re-opened after refurbishment. Excellent food and service). Down on the seafront near the harbour try Baccus where a full English breakfast, including tea, is only Cyp £1.50.

Would I go back again ….definitely. In fact this was our second stay at the Sofianna so they must be doing something right!

We Stayed at the Soffianna apartment for two weeks, we stayed in a studio apartment which was lovely really spacious, the apartment was cleaned every other day and the sheets changed every two days, the staff are very friendly and really make you feel welcome, the pool was great the only thing i would say that was not 10/10 was the fact we had to get up at 6.30am to get a sun bed and leave our towels on it as if you went down at 9am you could be sure there were no sun beds left,

Where the soffiana is situated is perfect you are so close to everything but not to close to clubs etc, the food at the soffiana is excellent a reasonable price and well presented.

The best resturant we went to was down by the harbour called the ROSE CORNER!

Overall the holiday was great and we will be returning again for sure

"Sofianna Apartments were what we expected. Rather basic and a little scruffy (after reading..."

Sofianna Apartments were what we expected. Rather basic and a little scruffy (after reading the other reviews) but all in all were ok for a base. Location if fantastic for Bars and Harbour. Thomson's rep was nothing short of useless. Bragged about his previous high paid job, hadn't a clue where anyhting was and told us he would preer us not to book tours as it casued him a lot of paper work. Food in the pool bar was awful and appeared slightly uncooked. Maid visited most days, cleaning every other day although it was cleaned very well. Sheets were not changed during our 10 days but towels were most days.

Had an 8 hour delay due to the plane being used for other passengers. No appology and a whole 5 pounds to spend in the airport (WOW !). When the plance finally arrived there were no services ready to prepare it for our flight. Complete disaster. Finally reached Cyprus the following morning.

Places to eat: Camera's (4.95 for 3 course meal with a free glas of wine.) Food isn't brilliant but more than ok for the price and the people are very friendly (including the parrot that meows at you). Oasen's is the same but bigger. Avoid Chloe's the food is awful ! The Mexian is fantastic ! Food is gorgeous albeit a little pricey.

The 4 hour Ocean Flyer cruise is also well worth it Costs 28 CYP with a buffet (which was rubbish) but a free bar and Captain Elvis provides the singer when you've all had a few too many. Stops off in Coral Bay for snorkeling.

The glass bottom boat is also worth the effort. 8 CYP gets you to the Vera-K wreck where you can see it on the bottom. We also dived the wreck and actually saw more from the boat !!!

Visit the Mosaics in the harbour. Cost is 2 CYP but make sure you go when it's cool as they lie over a massive area with no shade.

"We have visited Cyprus many times in recent years and it always satisfies our every need as..."

We have visited Cyprus many times in recent years and it always satisfies our every need as a holiday resort, the people are always spot on as far as being congenial hosts...this year though, it was very hot, in fact , unusually so, and I for one was quite happy to get home to rainy Manchester to cool down, we have been to Cyprus at different times of the year, and we've found that mid July-August is normally very hot...this year it was well over the top, never mind, it's better than wrapping up...we found a wonderful restaurant in the middle of Paphos, just opposite the Sofianna Apartments, it's called Palermo, it's an Italian restaurant owned by a lovely man called Salvatore De Maggio...the food there is first class, and the vegetable soup is the best in Cyprus..also, the prices are extremely reasonable...if you visit Paphos, please try the Palermo, you won't be disappointed.

"This was our third trip to Paphos and the second in the Sofianna. It was also our honeymoon..."

This was our third trip to Paphos and the second in the Sofianna. It was also our honeymoon and we had the best holiday ever. The Sofianna Apartments are clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We had a one bedroom apartment with a view od the pool (we hadn't paid any extra for the view) and for two of us it was more than big enough. The apartments all come with a television, fridge, small cooker and hob, microwave, pretty much everything you could need. The air con is included and very easy to control, but you must remember that is doesn't work if you have the balcony doors open.
The staff in the hotel are helpful. We had to find another hotel to go to for an excursion pick up, and the rep was useless so the staff went out of their way to find it for us, sending a fax for free to get the directions.
The pool is large and clean, not heated, but its great when its 30*c plus and you've been on a long walk. The weather in Paphos in September is fantastic, every day was hot and sunny.
Paphos itself has lots to see and is great for going on long walks. The best restaurants are Flambe Master, Brasilero and Andria's (which is actually in Coral Bay). Bar Different is the best bar - it doesn't play loud irritating music and the owner Panos is an absolute daaaarling ;) The cocktails are great too.
I would thoroughly reccomend hiring a car when in Cyprus if you are there for two weeks. We rented from Sixt and got a very mice Skoda Octavia, which was a free upgrade from what we had paid for. We only had to fill it up once and we drove loads. We went to Polis and Latchi, Larnaka, Ayia Napa and Protaras.
Now for what we thought of Portland/Thomson. What a joke they seem to have become. We usually book our holidays with them and have always been very happy in the past. This year, however, it started to go downhill before we got there. We decided to book our excursions online, before we went. One of the excursions we booked, the Tiger Tour boat, was mis-discribed on the site and we recieved an email after booking to tell us, and ask if we wanted to cancel. We did, and we then recieved another email telling us we needed to contact another department for the refund. I made over 10 calls to try and get the refund sorted out but no-one was prepared to help. In the end I had to write a letter to Thomson and it took them well over 3 months to refund me. For one of the other excursions I booked I did not recieve the eticket and was told it would be delivered to me in resort. After much chasing, and having to go the to the resort office, as out rep never showed up when he said he would, a rep from Holland International ended up helping us. Nick the rep was a joke. He did not want to book any excursions and never showed up when he was supposed to. Paphos airport was very bad on the way back. They had about 30 flights going out on a wednesday and the queue for security took an hour and a half to get through, queuing outside in the very humid weather. They are opening a new airport building next year though so it should improve.

I cannot reccomend Paphos and the Sofianna enough. I also reccomend the Troodos 4WD (go with Daktari Jeep Safari if you can), and also the day long catamaran trip.

We have just returned from a very pleasant holiday in the Sofianna Apartments. The apartments are probably 12/14 years old and a small amount of refurbishment is due. However they are clean, well equiped and in a very good location. The cleaning staff were exceptionally good. There is a very nice swimming pool and a handy bar with friendly staff. I suggest you request a room with a pool view as some parts of the building have a less attractive outlook.

Kato Paphos is the ideal location for bars, restaurants and shops. The harbour area is also very pleasant. Most of the restaurants are very good and I would recommend Manhattens and Little Palace. The fixed price meals at Argo are excellant value. (Poole)

Apartment was sold as having a twin bedroom and 2 sofa beds. When we arrived we found the lounge had one sofa bed and an extra camp bed had been added. This made the room far too small for our party (inc. 2 children, I don't know how 4 adults would have managed) We couldn't open the balcony door without climbing on the bed. Complained to the rep who said he would speak to the office and get back to us - we never saw him again, when I tried to phone the holiday line I was on hold for 10 minutes on my mobile bedfore I got fed up and rang off. I had paid £420 under occupancy supplement for 2 adults in a 4 bed apartment and I thought this was extortionate, as this was a 3 bed apartment with an extra bed added.
I have written twice to Portland since we returned and their so-called customer services don't want to know. So I for one won't be booking with them again as I can't trust what I read in the brochure.

Absolute shambles, Sofianna was in the middle of refurbishing and it was a complete 'Building Site' when we arrived, there was drilling banging shouting all day long from 6.45 am through to 5.15 pm and on our last night till 7.15 pm. No pool or bar and I counted 24 workmen working around the pool area at one time thats not to mention workmen in the apartments and surrounding areas. Not once were we approached by manager or owner to apologize for the noise dust or inconvenience. Couldn't wait to get home. (Liverpool)

On our first visit to paphos and arriving at Sofianna apartments we were welcomed by a very polite receptionist. Hotel room very spacious, with two rooms, bathroom and good ameities. Pool was a nice size and a good area for kids. Maids cleaned every day but bed linen could of been changed more often. Location was excellent right in the heart of paphos, minimarket across a quiet road opposite. Bars and taverns everywhere and only a short walk down to the harbour. Bus servies were quick and easily accessable to places such as Coral Bay Beach and Tomb of the Kings ect. Cypriot people were really friendly, very helpfull and excellent with kids. This was one of our best holidays, kids loved it and would deffiantly go back again. (kent)

"We have just arrived back in the UK, having just had a very relaxing week. We took the kids..."

We have just arrived back in the UK, having just had a very relaxing week. We took the kids to see the Tombs of the Kings, Which is a must. For a family this was possibly a good time to go to the Sofianna, as it sits right at the end of Bar Street and in the Summer it will be buzzing!.
For 50 Cents you can travel anywhere around Paphos on the local Bus, Which are to a good standard and realiable as well. We went to Coral Bay and Old Paphos town, the latter being the better destination.
A must also has to be the crazy golf, which was great fun and a good laugh for all age groups.
There was a great deal to selection to eat day or night. The best by Far was The Almond Tree, quality food and service, i would recommend the fillet steak, you would not get better food in any of Londons top Restaurants.
At night we hung out with the kids in Aces Bar on the edge of Bar steet.
The only slight reservation is that the Appartments are now looking a little tired and in the need of a bit of paint and change of decour.
The airport was fine 30 min from landing to getting onto the coach. The weather at this time of the year is quite hit and missed. We had some quite cold days but mosly we saw sun and the last couple of days it was well into the 70s.

This was our first visit to Paphos and like everyone told us - we all fell in love with it!!! Accomodation was excellently located, well equipped, near supermarkets, bars, restaurants and shops. The local people could not do to much for us. We wholeheartedly recommend the Mediterranean Tavern - about 2 minutes walk away from the apartments - the food was fantastic and the friendliest service anyone could imagine. We went 3 times in 1 week because it was hard to stay away!! Paphos is the prettiest, friendliest resort we have ever had the pleaseure to visit and we will certainly return as often as possible!!!!!!

This is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday. The apartments have air conditioning and basic kitchen equipment but with the number of restaurants nearby we didn't use our kitchen. The apartments are situated close to local shops with a couple of mini markets opposite and a five minute walk down to the local harbour. Apartments are cleaned five times a week. It's up to you to find your own entertainment on an evening so a visit to a local restaurant/bar and walk along the harbour is a good way of spending your time. If you want to get away from the apartments, try some of the great trips on offer - the jeep safari into the Troodos Mountains with a traditional mezze meal is a brilliant day out (be prepared to see four seasons in a day) and the three day cruise to Egypt to see the Pyramids and Cairo Museum is an unforgettable experience.
