Well , Just got back from Cypria Maris / Bay on 5th June 2011. Like most people I was concerned about the comments regarding the Maris.

To be fair it was fine and there are more reasons for staying there than avoiding it.

It does not really hit the four star mark , they have done some renovation work in the lobby and it was a good standard.

It is in need of an upgrade but having just stayed there it was perfectly adequate.

The good thing about this RIU resort is that you can use all the facilities at both hotels , for example we stayed in the Maris but ate all our meals in the Bay hotel.

The advantage to the Maris is that it is quieter in the day with not as much noise around the pool. The bay however has a swim up bar and nicer pool.

The bay is far more modern but noisier.

The food was very good in both and is from the same central kitchen so the food standards do not differ.

The restaurant in the bay is much nicer and you can just book all your meals there no problem.

We used the outdoor restaurant at the bay for lunch and it was very good food indeed.

The Maris is just older and in need of modernisation but has perfectly adequate accomodation and is cleaned regularly.

The beach for both was not up to much but that is reflected in the area.

I would not be bothered about staying at the Maris as you get the best of both worlds. Obviously the spirits are not recognised brands but local alternatives which are OK. The beer was KEO which is very good.

Helpful staff , entertainment a bit naff. Bus ride to harbour costs 1? and takes ten mins. 15 minutes from the airport.

Don?t pay too much attention the over negative comments on some websites. Its fine.

"The Hotel Cypria Maris has now merged with the Cypria Bay to become the Cypria Resort Hotel...."

The Hotel Cypria Maris has now merged with the Cypria Bay to become the Cypria Resort Hotel. It is however in all essence still two hotels with shared facilities. When browsing the web and looking at brochures, you will probably hope to be booked into the newer “Bay wing” with it’s modern pool with bridges and waterfalls and it is certainly a better looking hotel. However, don’t be disappointed if you find yourself in the Maris, apart from the fact that you can use the facilities of either hotel, the less attractive plain swimming pool of the Maris is better and deeper than the Bay and less crowded. It is also nearer the small sandy beach which although not the best beach I have visited, is still attractive and if you avoid the seaweed, has some nice clean water to swim in. The best bit is unfortunately used by the Jetski company located by the hotel, but they tend to jet off from a small pier so it’s fairly safe but I would suggest you keep aware of any likely traffic, however light it is.

The hotel is clean and we were all inclusive which made the holiday even more relaxing. The local spirits though were poor in comparison to the Canary Islands though and took some adjusting to. The wine was reasonable, the beer ok but the best drinks were the cocktails. Bottled water was also free which was a pleasant surprise. The food was only okay, edible and enough choice but became a bit predictable as the week wore on. The show cooking could have been better and the pasta was quite often cold. Breakfasts were good though and the coffee was pretty good too. You have two sittings at dinner and keep the same table throughout your stay. This is actually quite a good arrangement as you don’t have to go in search of a table, although some might not like having a set time to eat. Breakfast and lunch you can sit anywhere or go to the Taverna located in the grounds of the Bay hotel next door.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. I don’t think I have ever come across a better group of hotel staff anywhere. This is everyone from the reception to the cleaners.

Beach towels are provided and can be swopped at reception. The power points are like British three pin plugs so no adapters are needed.
Rooms have a fridge, TV and a safe but you need to pay a small charge for the safe. Air conditioning is very good.

It’s a bit of a walk to the harbour, around 40 minutes but there is a regular bus service. There are shops and restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel so you don’t actually need to go to the harbour every day anyway, although worth a visit both there and to the Market in the old town. Be aware of timeshare louts though if you do venture out.

Excursions are to Nicosia and Famagusta but these are around 3 hours away so decided to leave it until we are over the other side of the island. The best excursion is to Egypt, apparently anyway, as I didn’t do it but it is recommended by others.

Weather in June was quite hot but bearable and the sun went down around 8.00pm making a nice long hot day. Goes without saying to make sure you have sun lotion on, everywhere! Obviously ignored by those with red marks on their skin. Talking of which, there were a number of people with tattoo’s. Nothing against this, but it did seem by not having one you were in the minority. The guests were generally couples aged 25 -70, some with kids but as this was in term, not too many. Pool was un-crowded and nice and warm, a real pleasure to swim in. The parasols are a bit difficult to put up, don’t be shy to get help as they do take quite a bit of effort.

The downside as noted by a few reviews is the entertainment which is quite appalling. Holiday crowds are normally quite easy to please, but I have never seen so many people walk out on a performance. They really need to improve this. There was perhaps only one or two good acts in the 11 days we were there. If you can imagine the people who didn’t get through the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, then they could still get a job at the Cypria Resort.

I think it’s worth going to this hotel although not high on my recommendations, it does give good value and a relaxing time. If you have already booked and are only now looking at reviews, don’t panic, I’m sure you will have a good holiday at this hotel.

Booked hotel six months prior to visit due to previous holiday experience and location

On arrival - advised by hotel receptionist that we (and others) had been relocated to the Laura in Coral Bay.

We had received NO notification of relocation from the tour company prior to travel and had specifically booked the Cypria Maris due to it location.

We, after making a fuss were relocated to the Cypria Bay the next day. This hotel was not of the standard of the Maris but acceptable due to location.

I would advise anyone not to book with Libra as they do not keep to the contract you make with them and do not keep you informed.

"Third time in Cyprus, second time at the Cypria Maris. We could not fault this hotel at all ..."

Third time in Cyprus, second time at the Cypria Maris. We could not fault this hotel at all as everything was what you expect from a 4 star hotel if not more. Food was excellent especially the desserts, room was cleaned each day and the staff very friendly.
Will always consider this hotel when visiting Cyprus again.
Had gone on the Cairo trip, flight & cruise, on the previous visits so decided to go to Jordan to Petra (Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom)
We were a bit apprehensive at first but after the trip we are considering a holiday to Jordan, the people were so friendly and we were looked after extremely well. Long day but well worth it. (West Ewell)

"The Rui Cypria Maris is based about 1 1/2 km out of the main restuarant area and on a beach...."

The Rui Cypria Maris is based about 1 1/2 km out of the main restuarant area and on a beach. The hotel itself is clean and well designed. The food althoughonly staying on a bed and breakfast basis was excellent with plenty of choice and polite attentive staff.
The cleaning staff were excellent and every day designed figurinees out of the new towels and placed flowers and a love note on the bed. It made you feel very welcome.
Paphos resort itself is a friendly well presented area. It caters for all ages.
I return to Cyprus every year and this hotel would be one that i would return to. (oxfordshire)

"On our second visit to Cyprus, we decided to stay in Paphos and spent a wonderful two weeks ..."

On our second visit to Cyprus, we decided to stay in Paphos and spent a wonderful two weeks there. The hotel could not really be faulted. It was right next to the beach, with plenty of free sunbeds available. It also had loads of sunbeds around the pool area and in a 'wooded' area, where the tree's provided some much needed shade, at times!!! Failing that, the new 'sister hotel' (Cypria Bay) next door, also had an abundance of sunbeds and guests were able to use the facilities in both of the hotels. The Cypria Bay had a wonderful lagoon style pool which we used on many occasions! The hotel had no rules (that we knew of) about bringing your own food and drink into the hotel so, if you found the beach bar prices a little expensive, you could always pop across to the supermarket just across the road.
The rooms were very nice and cleaned on a daily basis. Each day, we would return to find the towels shaped into swans or lovehearts, with little poems and fresh flowers - a very nice touch! The hotel restaurant was very good with an excellent range of food available (buffet style for all meals).
Paphos, itself is very peaceful and picturesque. The harbour is lovely with lots of restaurants catering for all different tastes! We usually caught a bus down (50c no matter how long your journey!) then would walk back along the beach. This took about 20 mins but was ideal following a big meal! Paphos did not seem like a very vibrant place in the evenings....it's more for people who like to go out for a nice, sociable meal followed by a few drinks rather than for those who like to dance the night away!
We did not do much sight-seeing whilst in Paphos as we went on the mini-cruise to Egypt (This was very good but, in retrospect, I would have preferred to take the plane trip to Egypt rather than the boat!). However, we did manage to visit the Paphos Mosaics, which were wonderful, and we participated in a few games of mini-golf, which was good fun (this was about a 5 min walk from the hotel). An excursion called 'The Big Yellow fun Bus' was highly recommended to us but, unfortunately, we did not have time to fit it in!
Overall, we have had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend the hotel and resort to anyone wanting a nice, relaxing holiday. Whether you're young or old, a family or a couple....good beaches...friendly people...and lots of sun....what more could you want?!?!?! (Norfolk)

I had read other peoples opinion of this hotel and was very wary after I booked. But on arrival I was very impressed by friendlyness of staff. The standards in the hotel were execellent the dining room and the choice of food was execellent if you did not find something to eat you must be very very fussy!!!
The rooms were cleaned thourghly daily with a very nice jesture of a simple poem or sweets or flowers. The staff were really very very pleasant and could not do enough to help at all times.
Where it is situated is very central a 5 minute walk takes you to a patch of pubs bars restaurants etc the local bus service is great and only costs 50cyp to go anywhere. A taxi to the centre with all the buzz for younger night life is roughly £3cyp. I found although the drink was expensive compared to Spain it was no dearer than a night out at home. The hotel did have a happy hour every night which we took great advantage of £3cyp for 2 Pina Colada's not dear I think?. I cannot comment on childrens facilities. The sister hotel Cypria Maris Bay next door can be used at all times and it is a brand new hotel. We were given an invitation to a cocktail party and you could have all the champagne you could drink all for free.
