Rules are conspicuously absent on this floating island. The friendly atmosphere on the Island Escape provides the perfect backdrop for you to shape your own holiday. You choose how lively or leisurely your day will be, where to eat, whether to simply snack or lunch with friends. And when its time to dine you can dress up as much as you want. The island escape prides herself on attentive, informal service.

While relaxation just comes naturally aboard the Island Escape recreation can be just as rewarding. With the state of the art Island gym and beauty salon you can choose from training to treatments depending on your mood. If retail therapy is more your style the ships duty free shops are open as we sail. There is also a cyber cafe on board where you can design your own postcard and make all those at home green with envy.

Cabins on the Island Escape have air-con, telephone, safe, radio, wardrobe and drawer space, dressing table and mirror with power sockets, en-suite shower, WC and a hand basin. Facilities and entertainment on the Island Escape include Outdoor Pools, Beauty Salon, Bounty Lounge, Hair Salon, Lookout Lounge, Pool Deck, Sundowner Lounge, Internet Cafe, Photo Shop, Kids Club, Aerobics, Yoga, Gym, Casino and Ocean Theatre.
Meals & Drinks...FB . The Island Restaurant serves a mouth-watering variety of food that looks as good as it tastes. You can start the day with a full buffet breakfast and then later on spoil yourself with dishes including stir-frys, seafood platters, hot main meals, salads and delicious desserts. If you want a little al fresco food, the second restaurant, the Beachcomber, is a fantastically popular venue, with indoor and outdoor tables. On those occasions when you want to dress up, our third restaurant is the Oasis, a warm atmosphere where you can dine a la carte and enjoy a fantastic selection of wines at very reasonable prices. 3 Bars . Cafe Brasil . Lookout Bar . Mirage Bar . Sailaway Bar . The Pub

Surprised at size of Cabin. Much better than expected, though bed was a bit too firm for our liking.

Cabin Steward was very good and did his work most inconspicuously.

Changed linen and towels without prompting and kept the cabin clean.

This ship is getting a bit tired looking due to it's age. However it is extremely clean and the staff are very friendly. The excursions can be a bit pricey and if you are up for it you can organise your own at less than half the cost.

Pros - very clean, good choice of food, good entertainment, great crew, easy going approach to dress code ect.

Cons - tours pricey, Oasis up market restaurant disappointing, cabins a bit small.

Overall a good holiday and the cabins are after all only for sleeping in.

Remember public transport has come on leaps and bounds in all the tour stops. Therefore the organised tours should only be for those who could not be bothered with the hassle of doing it themselves, therefore the added cost should be expected.

I would go again.

We have never cruised before and we won,t be doing it again what a let down.

Small cabins, expensive excursions, poor onboard facilities.

Be warned even if you go all inclusive you will pay for water and the list of what you can not have is longer than what you can.

The ship itself is old and small and has no formal night, on board photos are expensive with tacky costumes worn at the gangway at the ports of call, very butlins [sorry butlins]

I could go on complaining but whats done is done please think before you book this cruise, I have complained to thompson got loads of sorrys but nothing else and there are no reruns in life.

Located in cabin next to the staff quarters on deck 3 made it very noisy at different times during the night with banging doors.

Carpets oily outside cabins, ship pretty tired. Food excellent and good atmosphere in pub.

Preferred pub entertainers to shows.
Drinks reasonably priced.

"Myself and my cousin just experienced the med cruise upon the Island Escape ship this was my..."

Myself and my cousin just experienced the med cruise upon the Island Escape ship this was my first holiday and cruise in 3 years. The ship itself was an eyeful.

When on board the staff couldn't be more enthusiastic and helpful and always greeted you with a smile and always asked how we were and if everything was ok.

The cabin was immaculate and services throughout the day and pleasing to see every morning an animal made using towels by our room maid, either sitting on our beds or hanging on a coat hanger from above our window. Oh our beds were also trned down for us in the evening.

The quality of the food and presentaion was amazing with every detail taken into account, from how the food was laid out and piping hot to high teas into the afternoon and for the late night snackers there were a range of hot toasties to burgers, pizza chips, everything you could imagine on hand as if you have just came from a night on the town into the nearest take away or snack van, as well as having all the tea and coffee and sweets on tap and once again staff even at 3am on duty and always ready to serve you.

The day entertainment was great something for everyone fromkids to the eldery from pool side games and quizzes to seminars about detoxing, healthy eating awareness on board as you can easily over indulge please beleive me, but the great thing there is you can work off all those extra cakes in the onboard gym or take a fitness class from abs blast to pilates or even early morning walks round the ship, at any pace so no excuse unless like me you forgot to pack your trainers, so do remember as long as they are enclosed pumps they are allowed.

After you have worked hard why not pamper yourself in the onboard spa/beauty parlour i did and with amazing prices just swipe and go i indulged in an evening of champange and fresh prange and canapes and nibbles of fresh fruit ,on arrival the table was set up with sculptured water melon carved into a face and others carved into monkeys.

Once greeted with our drinks we got a detailed run down of the treatments about to take place, first was a head massage with or without oils massaged into your scalp, then after about 20 mins you went out to the waiting area and had more champane optional and some nibbes served to you by once again a member of staff, so we didnt need to get up he came round with the lovely silver trays and offered you top ups of your beverages.

Next was foot scrub and soak, then lovely facial and last bt certainly THE BEST TREATMENT hot stone massage i had died and gone to heaven well worth it.

Also within the salon you could have your hair cut or washed and blow dried or have it elegantley put up.

Ice sculpting also took place during the day as did many other activities and never was there anything repeated. the shows in the evening were AMAZING i thought i was at a WEST END SHOW truly fantastic from the entertainers/dancers to costumes ,the singing and dancing were top class both ladies and the men were great.

Sing along bar was like an upmarket wine bar but with a relaxed and welcoming feel to it and once again the staff and peaople in general wre pleasant and freindly.

The night club onboard which i did encounter several times was for the young at heart to the swinging 60's and 70's for the mature dancer so overall catered for all tastes and did accept requests.

Organised excursions onboard for vast from easy pisa half day to full day in rome or just get off board and explore on your own.

I wolud like to sum up this cruise as a cruise of a lifetime from the moment you step on board to the end of your sailing 10 out of 10 and certainly would and will be recommending this to family and friends.

pp forgot to mention the onboard photographer he does amazing photos whether at dinner or in one of the many clubs and entertainment .

I believe this ship is being leased by Thomson. Having been on the celebration and the spirit i can say that this ship is a little tired and a little unsteady on the water-someone said its a converted ferry.

Having said that the food and entertainment on board were excellent as per normal with Thomson ships, and the atmosphere on board with all the other guests more than made up for the ship itself. Some lovely stop offs in the Canaries although had been to most.

The highlights were Madeira, lovely island and the tour up to the Atlas mountains in Morrocco were the guides were excellent. I would say all in all for what we paid it was excellent value for money.

We did notice that other couples had paid an hell of a lot more and sometimes Thomson need to adress this.

"My wife and I had an extremely disappointing first cruise on this Thompsons holiday. Having ..."

My wife and I had an extremely disappointing first cruise on this Thompsons holiday. Having paid over £1,700 for an all inclusive package with drinks upgrade we arrived on board to find our ship, 'The Island Escape' was 28 years old and tired.

The cabin was tiny and had thredbare carpets. The bathroom had dirt engrained into the grout and with no room in the shower area any contact with the curtain resulted in it having a cling film effect.

Having expected a modern ship capable of protecting us from any stormy weather, we were horrified to discover that virtually the whole time we spent at sea,we were indeed subjected to choppy conditions which the ship could not counter.

Whether a ship this old does not have the stabilisers to cope or not I just don't know. I can only describe our time at sea as akin to a rough Isle of Man crossing on the old ferrys.

Often, the passengers were being rolled around bad drunks and the handrails were kitted out with sick bags every few feet and yet at no stage were any announcments made to apologise for the adverse motion.

The first morning of the holiday we attended a 09.30hrs safety demonstration after which we attempted to have breakfast but found that one of the two restaurants were closed. This resulted in pandamonium and we were unable to get any hot food, instead we had to settle for cold food and forced to sit on steps outside the restaurant...simply not good enough !!!

First Choice, our travel agents had assured us this was an all inclusive holiday but again we were amazed to find only basic drinks were free, many drinks were fully chargeable or had small supplements.

Even the coffee shop was not included in the 'All Inclusive' tag.

"Chose a cruise and paid for specific Cabin as we were ensured by Island Cruises that it woul..."

Chose a cruise and paid for specific Cabin as we were ensured by Island Cruises that it would have no noise after 8pm 9 deck (wanted a quite relaxing holiday) under pool deck.

Going away party and another night on till 0030hr Early morning(4am) jogger
Emphasis is alcahol related could do with a quiet area on ship.

What entertainment we saw we enjoyed from rear of hall did not start till 8pm seemed a lot were seated from very early.

The trips were pretty good but rather captive audience so the prices are sky high!

The drink prices were reasonable £2.80 a pint.

The ala carte resturaunt was nothing special even though there was an extra charge for it round £11 a person plus drinks . On other med cruises it has been standard fare for all if they so wished no extra charge.

The ship has had 7.5 million refit done on public and engine room areas . But the delux cabin we had was well below standard of delux we had on DFS ferries earlier this year.

Badly in need of decoration. tiles hanging off in BATHROOM HAND BASIN(PLASTIC CHIPPED AND CRACKED .

ONE COUPLE DOWN CORRIDOR FROM US WOKE TO FIND RAW SEWAGE IN THEIR CABIN!

The staff were really excellent though nothing to much trouble
I would after they refit cabins consider going with them again but not until then.

My wife and 11 year old son have just got back from an excellent cruise on board the Island Escape. We could not fault anything about the whole cruise, the staff are excellent, friendly and polite. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The quality and variety of food is first class there was always something different every day so you could not get bored with the same menu. The ship is excellent clean tidy and well run. Our cabin was servied twice a day and was always left spotless. This was our first cruise and already we are looking at booking another one, it is the best holiday we have ever had the value for money is just fantastic. A different place everyday and as much food and drink as you like you can't beat it. If you don't want to leave the ship there is always something going on so you can never be bored.

This was an incredible holiday , we absolutely did not want to leave the ship
the staff were amazing , food was excellent , and we very nearly did not book a cruise as we had never done this before and thought it was for older people !
We were so suprised at how many famillies were onboard , the entertainment was
so much better than any hotel we have ever stayed in , we were only onboard a week , but we have already been back to firstchoice in eastleigh to book again as we wanted to let them know how great it was !!!! Trips were not that expensive and worth doing , the shore excursions manager was very helpfull
we cannot wait for our next trip !!!

"This was the first cruise I have ever been on so was slightly apprehensive prior to the trip..."

This was the first cruise I have ever been on so was slightly apprehensive prior to the trip but now I am a cruise convert. It was a wonderful trip, very relaxing and well worth the money. The only negative point I would mention is the size of the swimming pool, extremely small so you couldn;t actually swim in it and can get very busy. The evening entertainment was second to none - make sure that you go and see the pink panthers, brilliant. Didn't go on any excursions with the ship, however, explored on our own which was much cheaper and still excellent. The food on the ship was out of this world - delicious and plentiful!!! Drinks were a reasonable price, not the usual break the bank prices you would expect on a ship. Would whole heartedly recommend this cruise to anyone and can't wait to go back on it one day. If you've never been on a cruise and want to try it - go on this one you will not be disappointed. (Corby)

"This was our first cruise and did not know what to expect. We had a ball! From the minute w..."

This was our first cruise and did not know what to expect. We had a ball! From the minute we stepped on board (excitement growing!) we just 'knew' that we had made the right choice. Staff on board couldn't have been more helpful (cabin staff were outstanding) and we couldn't fault any of the facilities on offer. Though (echoing another gentleman who filed a report about this ship) the pool was fairly small and taken over by the children on board! Food was good and wholesome with a wide choice of dishes to suit any palate. Entertainment staff were superb and gave their all to entertain you with outstanding shows with lots of fun and laughter all round. Again, echoing another passenger, the shore excursions were a little costly and somewhat 'rushed' so, although value for money, it would have been nice to just take time to take in one or two 'attractions' at each port. Also on this point, if you are elderly or disabled you may be hard pushed to keep up with some of the excursion guides as they take off at quite a fast pace! Overall, would definitely do this cruise again, although maybe go off exploring on our own by taxi instead of taking excursions ALL the time. Only bad part about the holiday were reports back from passengers who had done just this in Naples, one word of warning here, don't walk around Naples unless its with a guided tour, and even then be very aware of your personal safety. Fellow passengers said it was very intimitdating place and they felt VERY uneasy walking around. My husband and I are now 'Cruise Converts' and were so smitten with 'life on board' were doing a Carribbean cruise next year! PS. Another, way off the mark misconception, is that cruises are for 'oldies'!! Total tosh! Age range on our ship (adults) a girl and her boyfriend who were celebrating her 21st birthday and an elderly gentleman who was 90 plus years young! You have to try cruising, at least once! Here's wishing you all a fabulous time!! (Bicester)

This was our first cruise and will not be our last. We had a fantastic time. Although we feel we packed a lot into our week, the atmosphere of the ship made it impossible not to relax, to sit back and enjoy. Nothing was too much trouble. Our cabin attendant was outstanding. The food was excellent, varied and well presented. We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised.

"This was our 7th cruise but our first in the med and with a british tour operator. We had se..."

This was our 7th cruise but our first in the med and with a british tour operator. We had seen the tv programme and spoken to people who had been on the ship so decided to give it a go and find out for ourselves..we found the cabin storage plentiful but dont take large hard cases as they wont go under the beds. Speaking of which these were very narrow and if you want them making into a queen size bed you will have to forsake floor space. The bathroom floor tiles in our cabin were loose in places but these were fixed on the last day. The evening shows were some of the best we have seen at sea especially as the 'stage' is nothing more than a raised platform on a dance floor. The food was excellent in the pre-bookable oasis restaurant and doesnt have to cost anything extra if you stick to the non-chef specials. Prices for wine and beer were very reasonable compared with other cruise lines and there wasnt an extra charge on top,the price you saw was the price you paid. Soft drinks were expensive. I didnt see any complimentary cordials for children so families beware. Our main gripes were as follows. The beachcomber:-the hot food was not self-service, there were never enough plastic mugs for the tea/coffee so you had to drink from styrofoam cups(you wouldnt do that if you were in a 3* hotel on land!!)the island restaurant:- tables too close together makes it difficult for the less mobile to get around.you dont get to choose exactly where and with whom you sit so be assertive!. I would not reccommend this ship to families as there are minimal facilities. There is a small room for the young ones with organised activities and a room with some video games machines for the teenagers but this is also the aerobics class room. There is only one pool and it is full if 10 people are in it. I would also not advise wheelchair users to sail on this ship. There are disabled cabins available but no suitable toilets in public areas and the lifts had amind of there own. Would I recommend this cruise to anyone? yes, to couples who want to try cruising but don't want to make an expensive mistake to find out they dont like it. Will we cruise on this ship again? no thank you.

My freind and I went on a med cruise on the Island Escape, it was only after we booked that we realised that the ship had had a terrible debut in 2001, so we approached the holiday with trepidation. We couldn't have been more wrong, we had a wonderful time both on the ship and on our various destinations. The only fault we found was the cost of trips ashore, very expensive. The food, entertainment and service onboard the ship were, however excellent.
