We went to Laguna Mar Aug 04, the hotel is of a good standard, the rooms are a little tied looking but cleaned every day. The air conditioning can be a bit annoying as you cannot turn it off. (only alter) But it is needed other wise I would imagine it would be unbearable with the humity and heat.
The ground are hugh and very well kepted, they have little open air bus running around the grounds which you hop on and off they also go to the beach which is handy.
The pools are well kepted and cleaned daily. The Wave machine is cool and so is the tubes. (plenty to keep the kids amused).
The beach is clean with ample sunbeds and shade, plenty of activities if needed.
The beach Grill (Cazon) is in my opinion the best place to eat). You can get your drinks yourselve or the waiters also serve on the beach.]
The logoon is amazing and very well kepted, the fish leap out of the water, its fab, with an array of watersports.
The restaurants serve a variety of food, the food is of a high standard and no upset stomachs.
Entertainment is of a high standard and varied, the daytime activities vary daily and are around the cascade pool and also on the beach. Evening activities, its a different show every night. Very well produced.
Kids club, this was the only down side, I could not find staff member who was running kids club that could speak english so I would not let my child attend. But the kids attending seem to be having a great time.
On whole this is a fab hotel with plenty of facilities including beauty centre (massage is great and very very cheap). The hotel is well kepted with a good selection of bars restaurants. The pools are never crowded as there is so many.
The beach is great and a lifeguard was on duty during the day which is an added bonus. The sea can be very deceptive with strong under currents.
If using the phone do not bother with phone cards as public phones do not often work. Hotel phone in room is very cheap, they ask for $50 deposit and you settle bill at end of holiday and get deposit returned. the staff are more than willing to assist with anything.
I would return to this hotel, the trips are a must I went on 3 trips being Dolphins (amazing) and very well priced Horse riding (fabulous) the horses are extremely well cared for so no worries there, and the trip well organised. Coche island (wicked) go for the quieter trip on the smaller catamrang otherwise you might end up on one os the booze cruise ships. (unless that is what you want) Coche is fantastic and the trip excellent.
The trip to the flea market is an eye opener (watch out you could but Nick and Adidos, Reaboc and even Guggi.) You can pick up some bargains but be warned if your not there before 0830 am don't bother it gets hot abd crowded) But it is worth the trip and is great fun. (with Dollars you seem to be able to barter as they want dollars).
The flight errrr. I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade to premium. The economy looked very uncomfortable and very squashed and a lot of passengers were moaning.
Premium was comfortably with plenty of leg room etc but I think far to expensive for what you get. (be warned first choice sold premium to me with lots of extras it was only after contacting the airline who we were flying with to be told that we would not be getting what first choice stated of course they denied this) So if booking upgraded seat ask for what you will be getting in writing as first choice use a variety of airlines)
1st class looked good and big wide seats etc. (enfield)
My hubby and i went to laguna mar in september the weather was just fantastic for the whole fortnight. The food was of a good standard with plenty of choice in the various places you have available.
The pools were clean and safe and the sea has a life guard all day.
The staff were friendly and helpfull and the rep wqas very professional. Take you own coffee as that was undrinkable. The trips to see angel falls were just an xperence not to miss. The island itself is a brown dry rocky place with little to see, car hire is out of the question as they drive like nutters.
The flight with air 200 was just appauling and i have to say i will not ever fly charter flight again, the seats were too small, you could not see the tv screen without a telescope and the food could only have come from out of this world as it was inedable which spoilt the holiday for me.
The resort itself has just about everything you could wish for and will keep you entertained. No moskitos to talk about which was a joy.
The island is classed as duty free so designer clothes are a good price, duty free at the airport is poor and if you are a smoker there is limited choice so beware.
You get a far better exchange rate if you take dollers and change up your money in shops etc but this is frowned upon by the goverment but some people were getting 3000 bolivers to the pound as opposed to 1600 if you change in a bank etc.
Not many brits there as these resorts are aimed at the south americans. Spanish is the main language with english not spoken widely.
We are off to jamaica this year on a scheduled flight with virgin much the same price as this holiday was.
Couldn't falt anything. Laguna mar is on a quite part of the island but this did not matter you didn't need to leave the resort it had every thing you needed, if you wanted to leave there is a free curtesey bus or the bell boy will call you a taxi. The food was very good in the main restaurant, but we enjoyed the beach bbq the most with it's fresh fish, chicken, pork, and burgers and hot dogs, and my wife's favourite corn on the cob. My wife my-self and my daughter upgraded to a suite which was enormous, even the standard room which my mother in law had was a very good size.
The entertainment was of a high standard, each night was different, they would put alot of hard work into producing shows such as the lion king, which was very good. The hotel offers a towel service, which we knew before hand but this saves alot of space on your lugage.
The eight swimming pools are very good, you have a wave pool, pool with water slides, main pool for activities, oylmpic swimming pool and the childrens swimming pool area is superb.
The staff and first choice reps were very helpfull. You are greeted by cocktails on arrival at the airport and also on arrival at the hotel.
i would recommend the Laguna Mar to anybdy, me and my family will go back one day.
